Casing Elevator /Spider
Slip action is controlled by a conveniently positioned pneumatic control valve or, in the case of the 200 ton tool, by simple manual operation. All pneumatically controlled units operate by utilizing the rig air supply. For maximum crew safety, the system may be manually operated if rig air pressure is temporarily lost. Further safety is insured by a positive locking mechanism which locks slips in the set position.
The elevators utilize both a bottom guide and a bell guide to simplify stabbing. A top guide on spiders helps to centralize casing.
Each tool is individually tested to assure consistency, durability and a high level of quality. Elevators/Spiders exceed API test requirements for hoisting tools. Each tool is proof-tested at 1 1/2 times rated load and then subjected to magnetic particle inspection to verify metallurgical quality.
Elevator/Spider independent action allows each slip to move inward radially. Each slip then grips the casing at the original point of contact and the casing is centered as the slips are set. This is accomplished without putting stress on the casing or elevator/spider slip hinges. In addition, the backs of the slips maintain full contact with the double stepped bowl to provide complete slip back up.
